abstract in another language: | The work is about Anthony Ashley-Cooper – the 7th Lord of Shaftesbury, considered by many scholars to be the father of Christian Zionism, i.e. the theory according to which allowing Jews to return to Zion would hasten the coming of the Messiah. The aim of the work is to show that it was the 7th Lord Shaftesbury who created the foundations of Zionism through his efforts and instilled his ideas in the consciousness of people. The deep religiosity of Lord Shaftesbury, combined with political abilities and connections, allowed to significantly prepare the ground for the first pioneers to settle the Holy Land. In addition, he carried out a parliamentary battle to empower British politicians of Jewish origin to cast valid votes, writing countless letters to leading British and foreign politicians such as Lord Palmerston. Chevalier Bunsen or Frederick William IV prepared the ground for the activities of the followers of his Zionist endeavors, such as Theodore Herzl. Lord Shaftesbury additionally motivated his religious ideas by combining them with political and economic factors. He wanted Great Britain to help the Chosen People return to the Holy Land, which would make it a strong strategic center in the Middle East. He was convinced that the so-called Syrian question, i.e. the moment of Turkey’s rivalry with Egypt for lands in the Middle East, gave a unique opportunity to implement the plan. Although Lord Shaftesbury failed to directly implement the Zionist idea, his voice influenced the next generation of activists. The Rothschild family, who managed to interest Lord Shaftesbury in the concept, he expressed his commitment, for example, by influencing Arhtur Balfour – the author of the declaration that led directly to the creation of Israel. Chaim Weizmann, the first president of the World Zionist Organization and Israel, also owed his vision of Zionism to the Rothschilds – Lord Ashley’s confidants. The work consists of three chapters. The first chapter contains information on the attitude of Protestant circles towards Zionism and Israel. It also includes the history of the development of thought. It also includes: the biographical outline of Anthony Ashley-Cooper, necessary to understand the subject of this work, and the genesis of his religious development. I have included a description of Lord Ashley’s feelings for the Jews and of how he himself referred to the Chosen People’s vision of return to Zion. Chapter Two focuses on the description of the political efforts that Lord Shaftesbury undertook to promote the Jewish cause. Based on the analysis of diary entries and correspondence, I showed how the Syrian issue was treated as both a pretext and an opportunity to initiate activities aimed at enabling Jews to return to Zion. Learn about the Lord’s allies, how he gained them and how he influenced them. An important issue for the undertaking and broadly understood political endeavors of Lord Ashley was the creation of a Protestant bishopric in Jerusalem. I described the case on the basis of an analysis of sources. I consider the efforts that Lord Anthony made for the political emancipation of Jews to be important. This issue was also not ignored. The last, third chapter describes the effects of Lord Ashley’s political actions. Here I have described the fruits of Lord Shaftesbury’s friendship with Moses Montefiore and the Rothschild family. I found it extremely important to analyze the impact that many years of Lord Ashley’s actions have had on British society. Chapter 3 also describes the evolution of Lord Shaftesbury’s concept. Almost all the work is based on the analysis of Lord Shaftesbury’s diaries and correspondence compiled by Edwin Hodder and published in three volumes.
